The choice between vaping and smoking traditional cigarettes is a personal one, and both options have their own set of characteristics. If you are considering switching or simply want to understand the differences, here is a clear breakdown of what Australian users should know.

How They Work A traditional cigarette burns tobacco to produce smoke, which is then inhaled. A vape device, by contrast, heats e-liquid to create vapour. This fundamental difference affects everything from taste and smell to the overall experience.

Flavour Variety Cigarettes typically offer tobacco or menthol flavours, with some variations between brands. Vapes, however, come in a much wider range of flavours, including fruit, dessert, beverage, and candy-inspired options. This variety is one of the main reasons many users are drawn to vaping.

Convenience and Maintenance Cigarettes are ready to use straight from the pack, making them simple and familiar. Vapes range from disposable, no-maintenance options to refillable devices that require e-liquid, coil changes, and charging. Disposable vapes offer a middle ground, combining convenience with the vaping experience.

Smell and Residue One of the most noticeable differences is smell. Cigarette smoke tends to linger on clothing, furniture, and breath. Vape vapour generally dissipates more quickly and leaves less residual odour, although this can vary depending on the flavour and device.

Cost Over Time The upfront cost of vaping can be higher, especially for reusable devices. However, ongoing costs may be lower depending on usage habits. Disposable vapes offer a predictable per-device cost, while cigarettes involve regular pack purchases.

Making the Right Choice There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some users prefer the ritual and taste of cigarettes, while others enjoy the flexibility and flavours of vaping. Understanding these differences can help you choose the option that best fits your lifestyle.
